Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a shooting incident that broke out late Saturday at Howe Park in Sacramento just as deputies were clearing a large unauthorized gathering of multiple hundreds of people.

What Led to the Shooting

Deputies first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park shortly before 6:30 PM after getting calls of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Shortly after, another report was received regarding a reported physical confrontation breaking out within the park grounds.

A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Nevertheless, authorities discovered that several hundred individuals had assembled at click here the park without official sanction.

The Shooting Itself

Deputies worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and using their vehicle PA systems directing the crowd to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.

These discoveries confirmed that at least one of the shooters had been discharging rounds toward the south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was temporarily locked down during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly late into the evening.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information relayed over police scanner frequencies showed that a Kia connected to the shooting was contacted by law enforcement in the Solano County area. Four suspects were detained. Law enforcement units were en route to collect those detained to collect the individuals for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
